John Allsopp and Maxine Sherrin, founders of the Web Directions conference, inaugurated the prize in 2006 in memory of Nigel McFarlane. Nigel was a friend and colleague, and was lost to our profession far too early. We wish to both honor the memory of his significant contribution to the web and open source communities, and establish an ongoing focus for the pursuit of excellence in the Australian web industry.
John Allsopp and Maxine Sherrin have been promoting best practices and standards in web design and development though their software Style Master, highly regarded website westciv.com, training, speaking, involvement with organisations like the Web Standards Project, and conferences such as Web Directions for over a decade.
